Straight Razor Set. C & J Morton 38 Cheapside (London?) Extremely rare 7-Day set having one ivory handle with locking device and 7 blades each etched with the days of the week on the top fitted in original leather covered wood box. Sadly there is a piece missing from pile side of handle. Still, these early 1820-40 sets are hard to find. Note that the ends of the tangs are stamped with a mark that matches the spring loaded metal locking device. These blades work with this handle only.

Collection of 9 bamboo pattern handled straight razors by different makers. Pattern #165, the Bamboo pattern was popular with shavers in the last quarter of the 19thC when there was a strong Asian influence in design/fashion in America. Take a close look at the handles represented here. They are not identical. In all fairness, I should have had a couple of pages in the pattern book to try and capture the variations. This "Asian-ization" of America was reflected in upholstery styles, "Japaning" of furniture, the introduction of dressing screens, ottomans, etc. It was cool to have Asian decorations and accessories, thus Bamboo. Note: I have to admit that the etched blade depicting the 1892 World's Fair in Chicago, and the etched spread eagle, slipped past me. I would have cataloged them separately. But, they are here for your acquisition and enjoyment.
