#23 – Baltimore American History lot. Includes original late 19th century-early 20th century, M.L. Himmel & Son S Roll Top oak desk with matching chair. Desk needs work. Nice bones and the roll top still works but all the mechanisms need fixing. Also, wood is coming off joints making it very difficult to move. Comes apart into 2 pieces. Some pieces missing (handles, drawer dividers etc.). ALL ORIGINAL. KEY WORKS. HUGE. Measures 52" x 34" x 51". This desk was used by Oliver Reeder toward the end of his life. Reeder was the grandson of Charles Reeder, the early American Steam pioneer. Oliver Reeder founded the Baltimore Copper Paint Company in 1870. They were the only paint used on the Americas Cup defender until the boat went to fiberglass. It was open until 2006 and still operated by Reeders son Oliver Howard until his death. This desk was used by 2 generations of this pioneering family spanning over 100 years. The desk was used by both Reeders in the original Baltimore Copper Paint Company building on 800 Key Highway in Baltimore. The building is now landmarked and is the American Visionary Art Museum. Approximately 20 HAND WRITTEN and TALLIED Balance sheets for years ending from 1940 through the 1950s from the BALTIMORE COPPER AND PAINT COMPANY. Fascinating and having value. Incredible look into this very profitable American company. Imagine they've never left this desk. Remarkable. Also included is a HUGE and rare Montague Dawson (British, 1890-1973) Sir Francis Chinchesters yacht GYPSY MOTH IV print that hung in the REEDERS office above THIS DESK until the 1970s. The print itself is rare and MAY be signed by the artist under the matting. Didn't remove to inspect. Measures 39" x 30" framed. The wrapping on back is partially removed but still has the sticker that reads, "Property of Oliver h. Reeder." The print is titled "Horn Abeam" and was published in 1968 by Frost & Reed.
