Celluloid handle has a lion head with mane and snarling teeth on a checkered board torso on one side, on the other is the maned lion again but without the extended checkerboard body. This razor is featured on page 42 of the "Celluloid Handle Guide for Straight Razor Collectors" by Robert A. Doyle. One of five straight razors featured on the front cover of my 2005 book "Celluloid Handle Guide for Straight Razor Collectors, Reflecting on Fifty Years of Handle Designs (1870-1920)." Straight razor. Engelswerk. C.W. Engels Solingen. Pile side if stamped Pilatus G-Stahl. Similar to #131, #132 and #133. The “Picture Handles” were popular from 1870 through the 1920’s. This one has three photographs of famous figures on the front in portrait style as well as lady liberty and an eagle near the pivot pin. The pile side has an ornate background with German writing in the center. This is the only example of this handle pattern that I have ever seen.

Each spine is stamped with a day Sunday - Saturday. Each celluloid handle has a raised peacock with blue and green coloring. Pile sides are plain and rounded. In a presentation box marked Wittkulle with a gilt crown over a sword. This set is featured on page 16 and is pattern number 54 in the "Celluloid Handle Guide for Straight Razor Collectors" by Robert A. Doyle. This is the only known 7 day set of figural peacock-handled razors known. This razor was illustrated, in color, in "Straight Razor Collecting, An Illustrated Price Guide," that I wrote and published in 1980.

Semi-rounded imitation ivory handle with raised mirrored pattern of goddess with long flowing hair that allows one leg to protrude at bottom near tang end. Pile side is plain and semi-rounded. Very rare. In a wood presentation box with red felt interior. The box appears to be signed B. H. Hoxsle and dated 10/30. The front also reads "Must Make Good or We Will". The back features a locking flip up lid (no key) with storage under the display. In addition, their small, metal, slant-front, advertising display cases are highly desirable by collectors for displaying choice handle patterns. 14.5" x 7" x 8" T.
