After 50+ years of collecting straight razors, Robert A. Doyle will be offering at auction his life-time collection of fancy and unusual straight razors. Up for bid now are 240 lots of the finest, unique celluloid handled razors featured in Doyle’s book, Celluloid Handle Guide for Straight Razor Collectors, Reflecting on Fifty Years of Handle Designs (1870-1920), published in 2005. Also offered are additional pieces that were found after the book was published and some original cutlery advertising display cases. Doyle, an Auctioneer/Appraiser/Real Estate Broker, started collecting at 16 years of age and turns sixty-seven this month. When asked why straight razors? Doyle responded, "They are small, beautiful, historic, one-of-a-kind artistic pieces that are nearly impossible to reproduce. There are no "fakes" to be concerned with." He continued, "It is time to allow others the opportunity to own and enjoy these beautiful shaving tools. The straight razor was the most prized personal tool of men through the ages." Straight razor. ERN Best Steel Made in Germany Wald - Solingen 7 day set. Blade features a gilt pattern with the word Solingen and an Indian profile portrait. Each spine is stamped with a day Sunday - Saturday. Each celluloid handle has a raised peacock with blue and green coloring. Pile sides are plain and rounded. In a presentation box marked Wittkulle with a gilt crown over a sword. This set is featured on page 16 and is pattern number 54 in the "Celluloid Handle Guide for Straight Razor Collectors" by Robert A. Doyle. This is the only known 7 day set of figural peacock-handled razors known. This razor was illustrated, in color, in "Straight Razor Collecting, An Illustrated Price Guide," that I wrote and published in 1980.

Genco razors slant front metal advertising display case. This case has a removable purple felt lined 6 place tray, was painted in wood grain, and has the company name on three sides. The front also reads "Must Make Good or We Will". The back features a locking flip up lid (no key) with storage under the display. Genco manufactured some great celluloid-handled straight razors in America. In addition, their small, metal, slant-front, advertising display cases are highly desirable by collectors for displaying choice handle patterns. 14.5" x 7" x 8" T.
