Thirteen stars, one for each State in the Union, over the early spread eagle on head end embossed covers. The center pearl panels are heavily checkered with beaded perimeter. This was an extremely high end presentation Razor when it was manufactured C-1820.

This Handle material is the rarest that you will find in an early Razor. I have witnessed four, including the folding straight razor carried by the Duke of Marlborough. All four that I have encountered over the past 50 years, I kept. You will search for many years and most likely will never find one. I do not know why this "select horn" is so rare. It must have been extremely hard to find this kind of grain on a single horn.

Note: Razor manufacturers were always marketing to shavers with the latest current event. CSS Alabama was a screw sloop-of-war built in 1862 for the Confederate States Navy at Birkenhead on the River Mersey opposite Liverpool, England by John Laird Sons and Company.[3] Alabama served as a successful commerce raider, attacking Union merchant and naval ships over the course of her two-year career, during which she never docked at a Southern port. She was sunk in June 1864 by USS Kearsarge.

YOSEMITE is commemorating the opening on Oct. 1, 1890, by an act of Congress, of the California Yosemite National Park, home of such natural wonders as Half Dome and the giant sequoia trees. Environmental trailblazer John Muir (1838-1914) and his colleagues campaigned for the congressional action, which was signed into law by President Benjamin Harrison. This is truly the only known example of this California maker's "Yosemite" with a rare figural aluminum handle.

Note: "Wilson" was a quality maker of pressed horn handles for the cutlery manufacturing industry in Sheffield, England for the American market. Further, these early full length pressed horn scenes, when combining both sides, tend to tell a story. This particular razor is depicting a typical American scene of the early 19thC where a gentleman farmer with his dog have industriously cleared and cultivated the land, built a home and added livestock to his wealth. This was a time of "Manifest Destiny" and Americans were proudly expanding westward.
