This offering of straight razors and related items is from the collection of Claude Rondeau with additions.

Claude Rondeau, who lived in France, collected fancy and unusual straight razors for over 40 years. I, Robert Doyle, met him when he visited my home in 1984 to view my collection. While he purchased some unique pieces from me over the years, he primarily assembled his collection in France. As this offering will attest, he sought the rare and unusual. French made straight razors are quite rare in the U.S. and very hard to find. One unique feature is the wooden slide top cases that house some of his straight razors. A good number of these rarities are offered in this auction. He also collected many rare genuine ivory handled 19thC examples - many one of a kind.

This offering is located in Connecticut and all lots will be shipped from Danbury, CT to successful bidders.

Payment is due by Tuesday, September 18 at 1PM.

All lots sold as is, where is. There is a 15% Buyers Premium for all lots purchased. Payment methods include cash, MC, Visa, Discover or good check. You can make credit card payment online by going to your Member Area and selecting your invoice. *NOTE* Shipping is available on all items.

#112 – Wow, a top shelf, American made....unusually shaped mint condition blade on carved and shaped ivory handle. “Turner & Cowlinshaw Meriden, Conn.” (JOSEPH TURNER. President of the J. R. Torrey Razor Company was born in Sheffield. England. 1838 and died in Worcester, February 25, 1907. For a period of twenty-five years he worked at his trade in his native city, and then in 1870, came to this country under contract with Heinisch & Sons, manufacturer of shears at Newark, New Jersey, as foreman of a razor manufacturing plant they were about to establish. He had charge of the erection and installation of machinery in the new building and was superintendent of the razor-making department until he resigned in 1872. Mr. Turner had to give personal instruction to the mechanics in his employ, teaching them the art of making razors. The field seemed promising for more concerns of this kind, and he engaged in business as partner in the firm of Turner & Cowlisliaw and began to manufacture razors at Meriden, Connecticut, under the firm name of Turner & Cowlishaw Razor Manufacturing Company. From the beginning the new firm produced a high quality of razors and found a ready market for all the product. From time to time the facilities of the firm were enlarged and the business extended rapidly. To the work of the factory Mr. Turner gave his personal attention, instructing his men, improving machinery and methods. In 1876 he bought out his partner and became the sole owner of the business. This company produced razors for the J.R. Torrey Razor Company.) super fine and rare. C-1870.
