#4 – 1927 Railroad poster and Stock Certificate from the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Poster : 100 years of the Railroad. Baltimore and Ohio Centenary Pageant. Baltimore September 24th - October 8th 1927. Original poster commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railroad, also known as the Iron Horse Centennial. At this event, B&O had its modern and vintage engines on display and rolled out its original Tom Thumb engine from 1827. Video clips of this event many be seen on YouTube.com. The poster in vivid color, shows an illustration of the Tom Thumb with an engineer and fireman, with a more modern engine above it. Professionally framed and restored on acid-free paper; it has been sealed and untouched since, 42"H x 28"W. Included in this lot is an uncirculated B&O New York stock certificate No.6229 for 100 shares at value of $100 each, printed by the American Banknote Company. ABC was founded in 1795 and printed stock certificates and postage stamps; it still operates today. If issued, a shareholder would have paid $10,000 for this certificate. Worthy of note, the certificate states that it is not valid financially unless countersigned by the transfer agent, which it is not. It was signed, however, by John Kissig Cowen, President of the B&O from 1896 to 1901, which validates the certificate’s age. The certificate is in excellent original condition. The issuing/redemption portion is folded over and is underneath the stock certificate. Professionally framed about 40 years ago on acid-free paper and has been sealed and untouched since.
