After 50+ years of collecting straight razors, Robert A. Doyle will be offering at auction his life-time collection of fancy and unusual straight razors. Doyle, an Auctioneer/Appraiser/Real Estate Broker, started collecting at 16 years of age and has just turned sixty-eight. When asked why straight razors? Doyle responded, "They are small, beautiful, historic, one-of-a-kind artistic pieces that are nearly impossible to reproduce. There are no "fakes" to be concerned with. Another fine set ofStraight razors. This Joseph Rodger?s set of four natural handled razors fitted in a brass bound wood case is totally personalized for the owner ?D. G. Metheny, M.D.? most likely this was a prized gift. The handles are scrimshawed to match the engraving on the escutcheon plate of of lid of the case. A quick Google Search brings up some information on Dr. Metheny. It appears he was in Philadelphia. He donated to the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia and he provided lectures on ?Syndesmology,? the study of ligaments. A great set with provenance.
