#13 – Albert Wasserman painting on canvas. VERY RARE. Unframed portrait of a model wearing a hat, CANVAS ONLY, by noted American artist, Albert Wasserman. Gender' Not sure. It's signed and measures 19" x 23.75". UNFRAMED and no stretcher. It was taken off frame/stretcher by family for transport/storage. Condition' The canvas was cut crooked. Typical studio artist! Nail holes from original framing. Pin holes. I’m sure this painting was handled, moved, stacked, leaned on…you name it. Many also have pin holes from being displayed in the studio! IT COMES FROM A NYC ARTIST STUDIO. Incredible history. Wasserman loved painting New York City...especially its people! Wasserman, a lifelong New York City artist, was a member of the famous Art Students League, the famed Salmagundi Art Club and served in World War II where he painted battle scenes. His works rarely come up for auction. Upon his passing this year, his estate was donated to be sold or auctioned. In June of 2017 one his works sold at a Mount Kisco NY auction for $1100, a new auction high for Mr. Wasserman. Others sold between $500-900. All of the 15+ lots of his work sold for auction highs. Mr. Wassermann's works are on the rise. Wasserman, Albert (American, 1920-2017). Mr. Wasserman graduated Evander Childs High School, Bronx, NY 1937. Pulitzer Scholarship 1940 led to National Academy, studied with Sidney E. Dickinson and Ivan Olinsky. 1941 Obrig Prize. Studied at Art Students League with Charles S. Chapman. Served in Army 1944-1946 in Belgium, France and Germany with the 115th anti-aircraft artillery gun battalion. Painted portraits and scenes across Europe. Stationed at the end in Marseille where he met his wife of 55 years, Sylvette Marchetti (deceased). Taught since 1955 at Jackson Heights Art Club and at Educational Alliance Sirovich Senior Center since 2001. Always with a sketchbook even on subway. Attended A.S.L. painting class every Saturday until mid September. Member of Salmagundi Art Club where he won numerous prizes. Always a gentleman and adored by his students. Loved and adored by his children Sandra and Daniel. May his gorgeous work live on. Contents of a Scarsdale estate. Please refer to pictures for condition.
