Straight razor. Wm Elliot & Co. Made in Germany. Flat black celluloid handle has ornate inlaid design consisting of mother of pearl shapes connected by twisted silver wire. Pile side is plain, flat and black. This very attractive pattern has been witnessed on five different cutlery company’s blades. What is interesting is that the patterns all appear to be slightly different. For instance, comparing two Wm. Elliot & Co. examples to each other, both have 11 pieces of pearl with wire. However, the shapes of the pearl are different. Further, one blade has a rounded point, the other is square. A W.H. Morley & Sons has 13 pieces of pearl. Three others include Wyeth’s with 12 pieces, Wadsworth’s with 10 pieces and an illegible maker with 16 pieces. All the pressed inlaid patterns I have inspected are similar and yet different. Scarce. Straight razor. Camillus Cutlery Co. USA. Figural handle pattern is in shape of “bamboo” and is imitation ivory colored. Perhaps the most popular figural celluloid handle pattern produced, this pattern is found on many different makers’ blades. The popularity of this "Bamboo" handle pattern coincides with the time period where Americans were infatuated with Asian Imports 1870-1910. In addition, I have seen it in black and imitation tortoiseshell. The pattern is fairly commonly found on the market. This razor was featured in my article "Collecting Straight Razors," in the January/February 1974 issue of "The American Blade" magazine. This razor was featured in my article "Look Sharp, Be Sharp - A Good Straight Edge Is Hard To Find," in the March 1975 issue of "The Collectors Journal" newspaper published in Grundy Center, Iowa. Straight razor. Utica Knife & Razor Co. “Red Point.” Rounded imitation ivory handle boasts fancy metal ends and inlaid German silver logo for “Red Point Razor” with circle colored in red. Pile side is plain, rounded imitation ivory colored. Note: This handle pattern is very specific to this manufacturer and quite scarce. The logo on the tang matches that of the handle. Also, note the third pin in the handle, which attaches a reinforcing piece to support the tang (a feature found on later straight razors). At this point in the photographs of patterns we have arrived at a place where it is necessary to understand that there will be many similar patterns by many different manufacturers of razors to those represented. This and the following numbered items are some examples of typical “later” handle patterns. In fact, straight razor are still being made today with similar designs to the following examples. To try and show all variations would triple the size of the book without adding much new material. This is razor # 167 in the "Celluloid Handle Guide for Straight Razor Collectors" by Robert A.
