Rare Lenzkirch Austrian Art Nouveau Mantle/Table Clock. Lenzkirch is known as the best of the best. This clock is Onyx and brass. Serial number dates it at 1897 based on book Lenzkirch Clocks, the Untold Story, a comprehensive history of the brand. This clock has the marking “1 Million” followed by160924, meaning its serial number is 1160924. Cast metal base, stand and appliqués, with brass figurine. Clock has original works and is hallmarked. Original key included. Clock can be fully wound and will run for about a week. It keeps perfect time by adjusting the threaded pendulum up or down to compensate for seasonal changes. Clock was serviced about five years ago. Pinions and mainspring were replaced, which do not affect clock’s value. Works were cleaned and oiled. Clock face is brass, as are the works and the rear cover. Lenzkirch clocks were made from 1851 to 1930 and helped to launch the Black Forest region as a major clock-building center. They were known for quality and artistic beauty. Topped with a crescent moon and a cherub playing a lute. Dragons on each side. Spectacular gold leaf goddess playing 2 trumpets. 21"T x 8"W x 7"D.
