3 chairs from the 1800's. Heavily carved antique Savonarola or Curule Chair, style adapted from folding chairs used by Roman Senators. It is heavily carved with lion heads at the top of each stile and centered below the seat cushion at the front. It is covered in dark blue velvet. The feet show some wear and use and were left in their original condition. Purchased from an antique dealer in Germany in 1972 for 500 Deutschmarks and was in rough weakened condition. It has been restored by Edwin C Ahlberg a four generation antique restorer and a stationery back was added to give the chair stability (may be easily removed to restore to original loose hanging pillow back). The chair dates from the late 19th century; 39.75"T X 26.75"W X 26.5"D, seat height is 19.5", arm height is 27.5". Pair of mid 19th century carved oak Biedermeier Directoire style chairs with curved arms and studded trim on the splats. The stiles share the same routing as the legs and rise to meet the great rail with a simple tri swirl floral design. They were purchased from an antique dealer in Germany in the early 1970's. They have been professionally restored by Edwin C Ahlberg and reupholstered with Naugahyde and brass nail head trim. They do not wobble. 46.5"H x 24.75"W x 22"D, seat height19.25" arm height 28.5".
