Mary Sue and Paul Peter Rosen have collected African art for over thirty years, making nine trips to Africa to study the art in its cultural setting. The Rosens have published three African art books, curated more than ten exhibitions from their collection, and have given public lectures about African art and culture. The term Kirdi refers to a group of tribes who have not adopted the Islamic religion in the border region between Cameroon and Nigeria. The object has been installed in the custom base with the small head of the snake pointed downward and the coiled tail at the top. The head end of the snake is wrapped with iron bands.
